Someone asks me this almost every week: “Which AI should I actually be using?” They usually want one answer, one winner. But after running 20-plus businesses on top of these tools daily, the honest truth is that Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini are each genuinely better at different jobs — and picking just one means leaving real time savings on the table.
Why “which AI is best” is the wrong question
All three of these models are excellent generalists now — you could use any of them for almost anything and get a usable answer. Voice mode is the most natural of the three for talking through an idea hands-free, image generation is built in and fast, and the Custom GPTs and plugin ecosystem means there’s usually already a pre-built tool for whatever niche task you’re trying to solve. For quick, everyday questions — brainstorming a product name, drafting a casual reply, generating a thumbnail concept — ChatGPT is often the fastest path from idea to output, mostly because so many people have already built shortcuts on top of it.
Gemini — best when you already live inside Google’s tools
If your business runs on Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Drive, Gemini has a real structural advantage: it can read and act on that data directly instead of you copying and pasting between tabs. It also has a genuinely huge context window and strong multimodal skills, which makes it a good pick for digesting long video content, large research documents, or anything where you need to throw an enormous amount of raw material at a model in one go and get a coherent summary back.
A simple framework for choosing in the moment
You don’t need to overthink this every time. A quick rule of thumb: reach for Claude when the output needs to be precise and long-form (writing, code, contracts, automations); reach for ChatGPT for fast everyday tasks, voice, and image generation; reach for Gemini when the job lives inside Google’s ecosystem or involves huge files. Most serious solo operators I know end up paying for at least two of the three — it's a small monthly cost against the hours it saves.

Stop trying to crown a single winner.
